TEN Lands Two Major Online-only Titles: Dark Sun and Confirmed Kill SSI and Domark to use TEN as the home for their online simulations SAN FRANCISCO April 22, 1996 Total Entertainment Network (TEN) today announced that it has gained exclusive rights to two of the industrys most anticipated online-only games: Dark Sun: Crimson Sands, by Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI), and Confirmed Kill, by Domark Software Inc. Dark Sun: Crimson Sands (also known as Dark Sun Online, or DSO) is the latest in SSIs series of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons computer games based on the Dark Sun world. "DSO is unique in that it is an ongoing world which thousands of role-players can share," said Chuck Kroegel, President of SSI. "Because TEN is geared toward empowering players, it is a perfect home for Dark Sun Online and role-players in general." Domarks Confirmed Kill is a state-of-the-art air combat simulation. The game utilizes the same flight modeling, graphics engine, and communications code used in high-end military simulations. "Confirmed Kill was designed with online play in mind, so it includes features such as tournaments, duels, squadron activities, and scenarios-on-demand," explained Dominic Wheatley, CEO of Domark. "We chose TENs platform so that players would have easy, national access and guaranteed high performance." "SSI and Domark are two very important partners for TEN," said Jack Heistand, President and CEO of TEN. "We are dedicated to providing the best network tools for their developers and the ultimate gaming experience for their customers." Dark Sun: Crimson Sands is a server-based game, so players can enter and leave a persistent world. Confirmed Kill will initially be available on TEN as peer-to-peer (with players setting up individual games) and will be followed by a server-based version. Confirmed Kill was designed by Gulf War veteran and AH-64 Apache pilot Bryan Walker. Total Entertainment Network is committed to creating the premier consumer network for game playing consumers on the Internet. TEN has online rights to more than twenty five different games, over half of which are TEN exclusives, by leading software publishers including 3D Realms/Apogee, Blizzard, Domark, Maxis, MicroProse, Spectrum HoloByte, and SSI. Based in San Francisco, TEN was formed in 1995 from the merger of Planet Optigon, Inc. and Outland, Inc. TEN received its initial funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, with subsequent investors including: Ameritech; Goldman Sachs; Robertson, Stephens & Company; and Vertex Management. Members can reach TEN through their own Internet connection or one of TENs nationwide access numbers. The software will be available initially for Windows 95.
