Connecting to TEN the first time
Once you have finished the new user registration process, your account/new identity is created and you can sign on to TEN.
Go back to the initial TEN screen again and click on the SETTINGS button to establish your preferred connection method to TEN (you will need to have a SLIP/PPP connection established either via your own Internet Service Provider or using one of TEN's local access numbers). Once you've chosen your connection method, just enter your screen name and password, click on CONNECT (to the right of the screen name and password boxes) and prepare to enter the ethereal other-world that is the Total Entertainment Network.
Option 1: connecting to TEN via one of TEN's local access numbers [provided by Concentric Network]
COST : $0.95/hour (in addition to charges for TEN's service)
To use our direct dial in service, click on the SETTINGS button, then choose "Select one of TEN's local access numbers." A window will appear listing all of TEN's local access numbers. If you have any question as to whether or not a particular telephone number is within your local area, please contact your local telephone company operator. You are responsible for any telephone toll charges that you may accrue.
If you cannot find a local access number in your area, please send an e-mail explaining your situation to TEN customer service at customersupport@ten.net. We are adding new local numbers continuously.
After highlighting the correct number, click on the OK button. You will be taken back to the sign-on screen. Then click on the connect button or TEN icon. This option will access TEN via Concentric Network, TEN's preferred Internet Service Provider.
Option 2 (connecting to TEN via any other ISP)
Cost : whatever your ISP charges for use of a PPP or SLIP Internet connection.
If you already have an account with an Internet provider or access to the Internet through a local network, chances are that you can access TEN through that existing connection. You should establish the connection before running TEN. At the TEN sign-on screen, choose SETTINGS and select "Use my existing Internet connection.". Be advised that you could incur charges from both your Internet provider (for monthly usage) as well as TEN charges (for TEN service) under this scenario.
Option 3 (Mix 'n' Match)
You are free to switch your connection method between your own ISP and our Local Access Numbers as often as you wish. Just remember that you will be charged the additional $0.95/hour when you are dialed into one of our Local Access Numbers.
